Overbooking: What it is and how to get the compensation you deserve
What is Overbooking and What Are Your Rights?
Overbooking occurs when an airline sells more tickets than there are seats available on the plane. In this situation, the company must first look for volunteers willing to give up the flight in exchange for benefits, such as ticket reimbursement or rerouting on a later flight.
If there are no volunteers and you are denied boarding, you have the right to:
Financial compensation:Up to €600 depending on flight distance.
Reprotection:A seat on an alternative flight as soon as possible.
Assistance:Meals, drinks, accommodation (if necessary) and the ability to make calls and emails.
Don't give up your rights! Request your overbooking compensation now.
How much do you owe in case of overbooking?
Regulation (EC) no. 261/2004 establishes the amount of financial compensation based on the distance of the flight:
Up to 1500 km:€250
Between 1500 and 3500 km:€400
Over 3500 km:€600
Remember that you are also entitled to assistance from the airline while waiting for your re-routing flight.
